Oracle Virtual
Compute Appliance
August
13th, Oracle introduced theOracle Virtual Compute Appliance. This new engineered
system is built, designed, and tested for rapid and repeatable deployment of
business-critical application workloads. To enable this, the appliance is
comprised of a full-stack virtual environment, including OracleVM Sever for x86 designed for application-driven
virtualization. The hardware and virtualization layer are both fully integrated
with a fast InfiniBand fabric to provide the needed throughput for enterprise
workloads. The entire system arrives pre-wired and configured – customers can
go from dock to data center “power on” in an hour and deploy ready-to-run
virtual machines in just minutes.
With over 100 Oracle VM Templates
pre-defined, pre-configured and certified for Oracle Applications, users can
deploy Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) or Oracle E-Business Suite 7x-10xfaster than the manual methodology with
other virtualization technologies. And to further enable multi-tier application
workload deployment for application migration or private cloud deployment, OracleVirtual Assembly Builder generated assemblies are also
supported on the new appliance. Assemblies encapsulate application workloads
along with deployment and management directives to simplify and standardize
entire life cycle management which can be controlled from OracleEnterprise Manager.
Whether you are looking to modernize
your data center, migrate to private cloud, or looking for faster time to
market in deployment of your application services in a pre-wired, virtualized
infrastructure for development, QA, or production, you should have a look at
the Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance.
Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance
simplifies the process of implementing a virtual infrastructure. Solutions
based on the Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance will be deployed faster and with
less risk.
Overview
- From power-on to production in about an hour
- Fully virtualized software defined infrastructure
- Integrated Oracle templates to speed deployment of
Oracle software
- Linear scalability enabled by adding one compute
node at a time
- Factory-built system reduces setup and eliminates
configuration errors
Benefits
- Saves hundreds of hours of installation and
configuration time and eliminates the risk of physical and software
configuration errors
- Includes Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder and
support for Oracle templates so customers can rapidly deploy complex
Oracle software stacks that have been pre-tested and factory integrated
- Out-of-the-box support for thousands of Oracle and
third-party applications
- Simplified appliance management coupled with Oracle
Enterprise Manager complete cloud control for full stack management
- Supports Oracle ZFS storage system and a wide range
of 3rd party storage
- Supports Oracle Trusted Partitions, giving
customers the flexibility to license Oracle software on a vCPU (virtual
CPU) basis
The Oracle VM Templates for Oracle Database provides a
framework that fully automates the creation of a Single Instance,
Oracle
Restart (Single Instance/HA) or Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)
configurations in an Oracle VM environment. In a matter of minutes the
versatile and powerful Oracle VM Templates for Oracle Database can be cloned
into any number of VMs which could be deployed as a Single Instance, Oracle
Restart (Single Instance/HA) or Oracle RAC of any number of nodes.
OracleRAC is an option to the award-winning Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. Oracle RAC is a cluster database with a shared cache architecture that overcomes the limitations of traditional shared-nothing and shared-disk approaches to provide highly scalable and available database solutions for all your business applications. Oracle RAC is a key component of the Oracle Enterprise grid architecture.
The templates are designed to provide a fast and easy way of deploying Single Instance or Oracle RAC cluster in Oracle VM for test as well as production environments. The templates are available in the following versions (ordered by template release date):
- [Aug 2013] Single
Instance & Oracle RAC 12c Release 1, including Oracle Grid
