Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) 11g Release
2 (x86 32-bit & 64-bit)
With Oracle 11gR2 RAC templates you can now create a
RAC cluster in less then an hour!
Also now you can have
live migrations with RAC.
Oracle RAC is an option to the award-winning Oracle Database Enterprise Edition.
Oracle RAC is a cluster database with a shared cache architecture that
overcomes the limitations of traditional shared-nothing and shared-disk
approaches to provide highly scalable and available database solutions for all
your business applications. Oracle RAC is a key component of the Oracle
Enterprise grid architecture.
The
templates provide an easy and fast way of deploying an Oracle RAC cluster in
Oracle VM for test as well as production environments. The
templates are designed to build clusters of any number of nodes, while by
default a 2-node cluster is created. The templates are available in the
following versions:
1. Oracle RAC 11g Release 2, including Oracle
Grid Infrastructure Bundle Patch #2 and Oracle Database Patch Set Update #2
(11.2.0.1.2), available via Oracle Oracle
Software Delivery Cloud
2. Oracle RAC 11g Release 2, including Oracle
Grid Infrastructure Bundle Patch #2 and Oracle Database Patch Set Update #4
(11.2.0.1.4), available via Oracle Oracle
Software Delivery Cloud
3. Oracle RAC 11g Release 2, including Oracle
Grid Infrastructure Patch Set one (11.2.0.2.0), available from My Oracle
Support under Patch number 10113572 for 32-Bit & 64-Bit Linux
4. Oracle RAC 11g Release 2, including Oracle
Grid Infrastructure Patch Set one Update #2 (11.2.0.2.2), available from My
Oracle Support under Patch number 11836831 for 32-Bit & 64-Bit Linux
5. Oracle RAC 11g Release 2, including Oracle
Grid Infrastructure Patch Set two (11.2.0.3.0), available from My Oracle
Support under Patch number 12694014 for 32-Bit & 64-Bit Linux
For more information
about the latest Oracle Grid Infrastructure and Oracle VM templates for Oracle
RAC refer to My Oracle Support note ID 1185244.1
The entire
installation is automated, requesting minimal information (e.g. node names, IP
addresses, etc.) from the user when guests are booted. Fully automated builds
directly from Dom0 are also possible, including automated network setup for all
VMs. The final cluster configuration adheres to the best practices for
production systems (assuming the production implementation was chosen) as
described in the "Oracle Real Application Clusters in Oracle VM
environments" technical
white paper.
Template Highlights
The
Oracle VM templates use a minimal installation of Oracle Linux 5.4, 5.5, 5.6 or
5.7 system images for either 32-bit or 64-bit. Only basic RPM packages are
installed.
The
Oracle VM templates can be used to build clusters of any number of nodes using
Oracle Database 11g Release 2, which includes Oracle 11g Rel. 2 Clusterware,
Oracle 11g Rel. 2 Database, and Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) 11g
Rel. 2, patched to the latest, recommended patches.
The
environment comes loaded with Swingbench, Oracle Cluster Health Monitor, OS
Watcher, and more tools.
During
the installation process an Oracle RAC database instance is created on all
nodes by default.
Any
number of nodes or instances can be added or removed from the cluster using a
single command.
